Felonious Spanking

A mom spanks her kid and gets a felony conviction for her actions.

Rosalina Gonzales had pleaded guilty to a felony charge of injury to a child for what prosecutors had described as a “pretty simple, straightforward spanking case.” They noted she didn’t use a belt or leave any bruises, just some red marks.

This is how we have come. We’ve left the raising of our children to the government.

A Corpus Christi, Texas woman has pleaded guilty to a felony charge of Injury to a Child related to what prosecutors describe as a “pretty simple, straight-forward spanking case” with no belts or bruises… just some red marks.

Back in December, Rosalina Gonzales was arrested on accusations of spanking her daughter, who was nearly 2 years old at the time.

Her daughter’s paternal grandmother took the child to the hospital to be checked out after noticing the red marks on her rear end.

Gonzales pleaded guilty on Thursday after reaching an agreement with prosecutors.

She was sentenced to 5 years of probation, during which time she is required to take parenting classes, follow CPS guidelines, and make a $50 payment to the Children’s Advocacy Center.

Before Gonzales was released, Judge Jose Longoria said to her, “You don’t spank children today. In the old days, maybe we got spanked, but there was a different quarrel. You don’t spank children. You understand?”

Her reply was simply “Yes, sir.”

Gonzales is working with CPS to regain custody of her 2-year-old daughter and her other two children.  The children will remain with their paternal grandmother until the state feels that Gonzales is ready.

A real travesty.  Some how It doesn’t sound like Ms. Gonzales did not get much of a fair shot with our justice system. Could it be that they held her children hostage for a guilty plea? Her guilty plea would seem to limit any possibilty to right this wrong.

Jometimes the Texas Justice system really sux.
