The no labels group sounds like a dumb idea to me. Maybe they should call the movement “Politicians that Stand for Nothing”, Or “Guess what I Stand for Party”. Of course it still won’t keep us from applying our own labels as needed as illustrated by John Hinderacker.
Sure: if you are an office-holder, there is much to be said for suppressing harsh criticism. The Democrats pumped out a steady stream of assassination fantasies when George W. Bush was President, but once they took control of the White House, as well as Congress, they suddenly started advocating civility. Great; we are models of civility. But that isn’t going to stop us from saying that Bernie Sanders is a socialist, and Barack Obama’s Senate voting record was to Sanders’ left.
Could it be it’s really about those who leftist but don’t want to admit it in public?
