Micro Rebellions

Citizens all over are angry at the government which is supposed to serve and represent them. Instead they act on what they think is best and not what their citizens want. We see it on the local scale. Red light cameras are almost universally hated. Here in the City’s have tried to ram the cameras down our throats, all the while ignoring the citizens complaints. Baytown city council tried to ignore the petition drive,  and not allow it on the ballot, they yielded at the last minute. College Staion Voters already rejected the Red light Cameras, and the issue is up on Houston’s ballot.

The reason that the cities want the camera’s has nothing to do with safety. but about Revenue. The money gets spread around pretty good.  and the people affected don’t want to let go.

If Baytown, and Houston vote resoundingly against the Red light cameras there will be pressure on other city’s from within and the state legislature.  There is talk in Baytown of their being an overthrow of the council members at the ballot box over this issue,  There might be a price to pay for not listening to the citizens.

  1. I don’t want to drive on potholes. I want the red camera money going to the hospitals. I don’t extra police offices having t control the lights. This is what happens today. Out of towners or idiots run red lights, pictures are taken which can be disputed, no police officer work is comprimised and the trauma centers still make money. Vote for the cameras and vote for safety!

    1. Interesting to note that you lump out of towners and idiots together. The Houston area trauma centers have been able to grow and support themselves quite well before they had the red light cameras. Its a very inefficient method of raising money, because People have found that the city can’t do much if we don’t pay the penalties, and the red light camera company gets a big chunk of the money.
The Cameras are proven to be a safety hazard rather than an accident deterrent. There are more accidents not less when the cameras are installed, which is why Luftkin had theirs removed.Interesting to note that you lump out of towners and idiots together.
