Seems like the introduction of a new but retro sneaker is motivating some folks to tear things up. The release of the the new “Nike Cool Grey Air Jordan Retro 11” has caused riots and melees throughout Texas.
At Towne East Mall in Mesquite, Texas, police offers used pepper spray to control a crowd of unruly shoppers. Reports say that at approximately 4:30 a.m., people from the back of the line attempted to bumrush their way forward, causing the door to be forced open.

Meanwhile, at Deerbrook Mall in Houston, a crowd of over 300 people caused extensive damage to the entry doors when they flooded the mall at opening. Binswanger Glass, a local repair shop, was called in to replace the glass on multiple doors. Police were also on hand to patrol a Foot Action store at Houston’s Northline Mall.

Some Texas shoppers got a bit ugly over the limited holiday release of new Air Jordan sneakers.
Police were called to a Round Rock outlet mall Thursday in response to unruly shoppers lined up to buy “Cool Grey” Nike Air Jordan 11 Retro sneakers.
The shoes went on sale for about $175 a pair at several stores Thursday morning. Shoppers began lining up the night before.
Round Rock police spokesman Eric Poteet told the Austin-American Statesman that some shoppers in a crowd of about 100 waiting to enter Robert Wayne Footwear got mad and disruptive when workers did not let them all into the store at once.
And closer to home at Texas City.
Unruly shoppers had to be chased off, while another person wanting to get the sneakers was charged with leading police on a high-speed chase.
The crowd of shoppers wanting to be the first to get their hands on the limited edition “Cool Grey” Nike Air Jordan sneakers got a bit unruly when Mall of the Mainland officials would not let them into the shopping center.
The Foot Action USA store in the mall had a limited number of the $175 a pair sneakers. Store officials cut off some from waiting in line, and police were called when mall officials reported that some were trying to “break into the mall,” police Capt. Brian Goetschius said.
Not being a fashion slave, I don’t suppose I will ever understand.
It does seem that some people have poor understanding about the spirit of Christmas.
