more on Koran Burning

It looks like the folks at Dove World Outreach Center have called off the Koran burning this Saturday.

A fiery Florida pastor called off his bonfire of Korans today after claiming he had a deal that would move a controversial mosque away from the site of the 9/11 terror attacks — but the Muslim cleric planning the so-called “Ground Zero mosque” quickly denied to ABC News that he had agreed to move his project.

But it looks like the Wetboro Baptist Church is more than willing to fill the void.

Westboro Baptist Church, the small Topeka, Kan., church that pickets funerals of American soldiers to spread its message that God is punishing the country for being tolerant of homosexuals, has vowed to hold a Quran burning if Gainesville’s Dove World Outreach Center calls its off.

“WBC burned the Koran once – and if you sissy brats of Doomed america bully Terry Jones and the Dove World Outreach Center until they change their plans to burn that blasphemous tripe called the Koran, then WBC will burn it (again), to clearly show you some things,” the church announced in a news release this week.

Perhaps as in the last time no one will take notice Fox News and AP have promised not to distribute images or videos of  a burning, While they seem to be refering to the World Outreach Center,  is seems likely they would blackout videos and Images of a simular Westboro Stunt.

Responses have been interesting. John Hinderaker thinks its hard to feel good about any of this.

The result, I suppose, is a good one, but it is hard to feel positive about any aspect of this story. We now have firmly established the principle that you can kick Bibles and other scriptures around all you want, but no one in the world can act disrespectfully toward a Koran. It is, perhaps, a watershed moment.

Greg posts about a campaign that puts the whole thing in perspective.  The idea is they will donate a Koran to the people in Afghanistan to replace any that are destroyed.  Should take the the anger right out of the Islamist.

Yeahh .. riiiiight!
