GE the original incandescent lightbulb manufacturer is shutting down its factory in Winchester Virginia.
WINCHESTER, VA. – The last major GE factory making ordinary incandescent light bulbs in the United States is closing this month, marking a small, sad exit for a product and company that can trace their roots to Thomas Alva Edison’s innovations in the 1870s.
President Obama didn’t tell us that the Green jobs he wants to create is really about eliminating traditional jobs in this country and creating the green jobs in China. After 2014 there won’t be any traditional incandescent bulbs to be found in in our retail stores. Although those of us near the borders will still be able to smuggle them in from Mexico and Canada. Smuggling has been an effective tradition excessive regulation on toilets, liquor, overly expensive prescription drugs, sugar cane sweetened Coca Cola and of course marijuana. Our neighbors will be more than happy to fill the shortages created by our Congress.
The problem with CFLs is that many times they just aren’t suitable to the task,. They don’t last as long as they are claimed to, they don’t fit in many of the existing fixtures, Most of them produce a dreadful green light. The flickering inherent with them can aggravate migraine symptoms. Most of all they are more expensive.
